New Event Venues & Travel Insights: from Costa Mujeres, Cancun, Riviera Maya, and Tulum.

Well let me begin by saying that although Blogging is not new, it is new to me! Those who know me know I love sharing my opinions (good and bad), but especially the knowledge I’ve gained from traveling.

2025 starts a new chapter in my career as North America Sales Director for Tropical Incentives DMC. Earlier this month, I was reintroduced to Cancun and the beautiful country of Mexico. I will soon be visiting Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta, San Miguel de Allende, and the Dominican Republic.

Since the first moment, I have felt at home with the stunning beaches, luxurious hotels, upscale restaurants, and—yes! —even Mexican wine (more on that in future editions). Most of all, I am honored to work alongside a team of knowledgeable professionals who embody hospitality and teamwork like a familia.

If you haven’t been to Cancun, Riviera Maya, or Tulum lately, you’re in for a surprise! The region’s new hotels and conference venues are changing the game for corporate event planners. Having last visited in 2019, I was amazed by the tremendous growth, especially in Costa Mujeres and Playa Mujeres, where luxury group-friendly hotels are thriving—just 20–25 minutes from the airport.

What’s New:

• Costa Mujeres & Playa Mujeres: A top choice for corporate incentive groups due to its high-end resorts and proximity to Cancun International Airport.
• Tulum’s Transformation: The once-bohemian escape has evolved into a sought-after location for executive retreats and upscale meetings.
• Tulum International Airport (TQO): Opened recently, offering new flight options, though logistics remain key for event planners.

Tulum’s Growth: What Event Planners Need to Know

A common question is: Should I fly into Cancun or Tulum for my group event?

• Tulum Airport to Tulum hotels: Approximately 45–60 minutes (depending on traffic and hotel location).
• Cancun International Airport to Tulum hotels: 1.5–2 hours by ground transfer.
• Transportation considerations: Many DMCs still dispatch vehicles from Cancun to Tulum, increasing costs. However, Tropical Incentives DMC maintains a fleet in Playa del Carmen, reducing travel time and expenses for event planners.

💡 Pro Tip: When budgeting for ground transfers, compare rates between Cancun and Tulum airports to optimize event costs.

Cultural Insights: Rosca de Reyes & the Epiphany Tradition

Did you know that in Mexico and other Latin American countries, the Epiphany (January 6th) is celebrated with a special king cake called the Rosca de Reyes? Hidden inside is a Baby Jesus figurine—whoever finds it must bring tamales to the Dia de la Candelaria celebration on February 2nd. Keep this fun fact in mind for your next trivia night.
